Companies that reported data breaches affecting New York residents to the state attorney general.
New York's SHIELD Act (Stopping Hacks and Improving Electronic Data Security), enacted in 2019, significantly expanded breach notification requirements and mandated reasonable data security practices. New York requires notification to all affected residents regardless of the size of the breach and expanded the definition of "private information" to include biometric data, usernames and passwords, and more.
